Parish marks 33rd fiesta

The parish of St. Mary of Perpetual Rosary in Buhangin, Davao City recently celebrated its 33rd Parochial Fiesta.

It centered on the theme “Pagkamasinugtanon ni Birhen Maria, sumbanan ug kadasig sa mapadayunong pagpangalagad sa uban”. (Mary’s obedience, inspiration and motivation to the service of the people.)

Most Rev. Romulo Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao & CBCP President, presided the Pontifical Mass at 9:30 a.m. on October 6, 2019.

In his Homily, the Archbishop joyfully greeted the parishioners, “Brothers and Sisters in the Lord, Happy Fiesta to all of you! Viva Maria!”

“Today we are celebrating the 33rd fiesta of the parish. It’s quite a long time already. (It’s already) more than the silver and a few years from now, we will celebrate the golden anniversary,” he said.

As his message, he encouraged everyone to join in the journey onwards to a more meaningful faith in Jesus through the mass celebrated for Jesus’ mother.

“Today, in the holy mass for our fiesta, we are once again moving forward. Travelling, journeying, growing, deepening our faith in Jesus,” the Archbishop said.

Concelebrating with Valles are Fr. Dionisio Tabiliran, SMPR Parish Priest, Fr. Rey Sabuero, Parochial Vicar, Fr. Christopher Concepcion and Msgr. Jimmy Gamboa.

The Archbishop also emphasized the importance of the fiesta with the blessed Mary as its patron.

He said that every celebration of the Holy Mass, the name of the Blessed Mother is mentioned.

“Every time, in all four Canons, the Blessed Mother is mentioned. Why? The logic of the academic research would show that after the resurrection of Jesus Christ, they took Mary with Him,” Valles said.

“Since the beginning, Mama Mary was already in the circle,” he further explained.
