2019 Season of Advent is 1st of December

Advent editorialThe term advent is a version of the Latin word which means “coming” in English. That is why, we Catholics celebrate the season of advent as a preparation for the commemoration of the birth of Jesus or the “coming” of Jesus.

But this coming does not mean a physical coming or a rebirth. It means the coming “again” of Jesus in our hearts. We have four Sundays or four weeks to prepare ourselves for that “coming”. And that “coming” takes place every midnight of the 24th of December. But that is only the traditional celebration of Christmas.

The real meaning of the celebration is sometimes not known because the world gives emphasis on the Christmas celebration not realizing that Advent is the time to prepare for Christmas. There is that nine mornings or popularly known as Misa de Gallo to spend for the preparation.

As we spend our Nine Mornings in the church praying and waiting to commemorate the birth of baby Jesus, let us also prepare a place in our hearts the birth of Jesus. It does not matter whether this is His first, or second, or third, or nth time of rebirth. What matters most is that baby Jesus’ “coming” is always grand and welcome in our hearts and lives.
