Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio has declared a period of mourning and vigilance amid the coronavirus pandemic from April 17 to December 31, 2020.

Under Executive Order No. 25, the city mayor has ordered the cancellation of all government-sponsored events and crowd-drawing activities like Kadayawan sa Dabaw festival particularly Indak-indak sa Kadalanan and Pamulak.

Speaking over the Davao City Disaster Radio, the mayor clarified that the Mass for the said event will still be celebrated but other activities like the street party and main events will be cancelled.

The 3rd Alveo 70.3 Ironman which was supposed to be held in May is also cancelled but will push through in May 2021.

Extravagant gatherings and parties of the public and private sectors should also be held in abeyance until after the period of mourning and vigilance due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Other public events like legal holidays should be celebrated but must be kept short.

Celebrations of birthdays and other events should be low key, preferably less than 25 guests involved.

She also urged that private sector should consider food distribution, feeding programs or financial assistance to their employees especially in celebrating Christmas parties this December.

“Instead nga magparty mo, kwarta na lang ihatag sa inyong mga employees,” Duterte said. (JFF/DCHerald)
