“St. Benedict’s Monastery: A Beacon of Ora et Labora”

About the Community

The St. Benedict’s Monastery – monks (SBM) is an independent religious community of the Catholic Church which strives to respond to the Holy Rule of St. Benedict by lives of “ora et labora” which means “prayer and work”.

It was officially established on July 11, 1983 after former Bishop of Digos, Most Rev. Generoso C. Camiña, PME, DD, invited the international congregation of the Missionary Benedictines of St. Ottilien (Germany) to establish a monastery as a spiritual center in his young diocese.

Presently, the monastery is situated at Brgy. Cogon, Digos City under the supervision of its superior Rev. Fr. Patrick Mariano, OSB and regularly celebrates a Holy Eucharist every 6 in the morning from Monday to Saturday and 8am on Sunday. Since this community is open to the outside world, other lay faithful are very welcome to celebrate a mass with the monks.

Charity and Works

SBM’s monks serve their neighborhood and local Church through their livelihood such as gardening and farming, animal husbandry, orchidaria, selling of fresh cow milk and chocolate, etc.

Through benevolence and compassion, the monastery offers free medical assistance and grants full scholarship to deserving poor families.

People are also invited to experience the presence of God in the SBM Retreat House whenever they have their retreats, recollections, periods of silence and reflection, and quality moments with the Almighty.

Their lives are anchored on these eleven core virtues: Community Living, Awareness of God, Dignity of Work, Hospitality, Justice, Silence, Holy Listening, Moderation, Peace, Respect for persons, Stability, and Stewardship

Motto: “That in all things, God may be glorified.”
