Servants of the Blessed Sacrament (SSS)

Place and Date of Foundation: Paris, France/May 25, 1858
Philippine Foundation: May 24, 1964

The Congregation of the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament is the women branch of the two religious Congregations founded by St. Peter Julian Eymard in Paris, France founded in May 25, 1858 Marguerite Guillot was named first superior. The congregation gained Pontifical status with the definitive approval of their Constitutions by the Holy See on July 21, 1871.

The coming of the Blessed Sacrament priest and brothers to the Philippines in 1957 paved the way for many young women to get acquainted with the Eucharistic spirituality of St. Peter Julian Eymard that led the first batch of Filipinas who went to Australia to become Servants of the Blessed Sacrament in 1959-1960.

In 1964, at the invitation of his Eminence, Rufino Cardinal Santos, Mother Berth, then Superior General and her council decided to start a foundation in the Philippines. The Filipinas who were formed in Australia returned to the Philippines to begin the foundation on May 24, 1964. The first stage of the foundation was hopping from N. Domingo, Quezon City to La Ignacina, Sta. Ana, Manila and finally to Novaliches, Quezon City on July 16, 1968.

The second cenacle of the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament, Philippine Province is in Davao City. This was established in 1986 thru the invitation of the Blessed Sacrament Fathers. Since the foundation, the sisters have been closely collaborating with the Blessed Sacrament Fathers to make the Eucharist known and loved in this part of the world.

What is amazing is that the Sisters have attracted students and young professionals to join them in their nocturnal adoration. Their dedication to adoration is commendable for they are present to take the first hour of adoration rain or shine. Besides, our retreatants are also using our chapel for their prayer and adoration.

The Servants of the Blessed Sacrament in the Philippines celebrated their fifty (50) years of Eucharistic presence and witnessing on May 25, 2014. They are grateful to God for the privilege of sharing their Eucharistic life to the Filipino people for 50 years and look forward to many more years of Eucharistic life and service.

Thus, the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament invites young-women professionals who desire to become a Religous Sister to come and discern with them. (Sr. Elisabeth Constantino, SSS)
