Migrant Sunday

Our nation has the world’s biggest labor force working all over the globe. The Department of Labor records show that about 5 million Filipinos work abroad. These heroes left their families to work abroad because: 1. There are no jobs here or 2. the salaries are small.

Some of the bad effects of the overseas Filipino workers program are: 1. Marital ties or relationships between the spouse who stays here and the spouse who works abroad become loose, strained or worse, broken; 2. The small children left here rarely know their father or mother leading to bad or zero family relationship; 3. The children would have problems in the family or in school (drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, no discipline).

From March 2020 to February 2022 Filipinos abroad could not go home and Filipinos here could not go abroad because of COVID 19. By April 2021, vaccines start pushing back Covid 19. Since April 2021 more OFWs have returned and more OFWs have gone abroad.

Central Bank records show that in the 1990’s up to 2022, the OFW monthly dollar remittances contributed to more than 50% of all our dollar reserves. The OFW remittances is the reason why we did not become bankrupt like Lebanon and Sri Lanka.

A social study show that the OFWs bond together through the church. (Masses, Sunday meetings, novenas etc.) OFWs are more religious while abroad. We thank the Lord giving OFWs hope and comfort amidst the loneliness and trials.

Please include in your prayers the good health and safety of our OFWs. We honor them and their families for their sacrifices.

May the Lord Bless and Protect our OFWs.
