Emmanuel
After two years of the pandemic, this season of Christmas must make a difference. This is the feeling of many of us since we started the preparations during Advent when people went to Church for the Misa de Gallo. No matter how small a house could be, a little decoration like simple lights and lanterns, or a small Belen would do. No matter how we have just arisen from the crisis, we try to buy a gift from the heart intended for a special loved one. No matter how small the savings, if there are little blessings, we try to prepare a meal together for the family. Others would even spare something for a reach out to the poor.
All these gestures we do in order to remember the selfless giving of the Savior who took on our human flesh to live with us. In the poverty and simplicity of His birth, we are reminded to find joy in His presence in the ordinariness of His coming. He became ordinary to tell us how special and beloved each one of us is. These external activities must only aid us in allowing ourselves to find Him in the presence of each one, so that we may become a true present to one another.
Let this Christmas be filled with thanksgiving in our hearts to God who became flesh and lived among us. Indeed, He is Emmanuel. A blessed Christmas and a peaceful new year 2023!
