Be perfect just as your heavenly Father is perfect (Mt. 5:48)

“Practice makes perfect, but nobody is perfect,” they say. However, according to our Lord Jesus Christ, our “Heavenly Father is perfect.” Therefore, perfection is possible if we imitate our Heavenly Father. How do we think we can do that? Jesus Christ tells us, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Only this kind of love perfects us. Therefore, we must thank the unloving, unkind, and unfriendly people because we can practice perfection by genuinely loving them, that is, “to will the good for them.” We love for God’s sake. If that is so, we also love for man’s sake, for others, and for our sake.

Today, St. Peter the Apostle Sunday, we pray and show our financial support for the formation and training of seminarians, clergy and religious. They, who offer their life in an inclusive love of God and others strive to follow the way of perfection. Without loving someone, they love everyone with the love of Christ.
To love like this is the wisest and holiest thing to do. Love makes us godly. This is the only way by which evil can be overcome. Charity always wins!
