Diocese of Mati Holds 2nd Diocesan SoCCom Convention

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Mati-Social Communications Ministry successfully held the 2nd Diocesan SoCCom Convention at St. Therese Gym, Madang, City of Mati on June 11 attended by hundreds of participating evangelizers across the diocese in support of its mission to evangelize and share the Christian faith through social and mass communication.

The SoCCom convention commenced with the Holy Eucharist situated at San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral presided by Most Rev. Abel C. Apigo, DD, Bishop of Mati together with SoCCom Director Rev. Fr. Alfe Alimbon. In his homily, Bishop Apigo expressed his gratitude to all active evangelizers as partner and frontliner of the Church in spreading the word of God specifically during the Holy Mass, especially during pandemic in the past years. He also commended Rev. Fr. Alimbon, the Ministry Director for his untiring commitment and guidance for the ministry.

Resource speakers PMAJ Ray Vincent N. Magto, Assistant Chief, Regional Anti Cybercrime Unit 1 and PLT Reaian C. Amaba Cyber Forensic Officer, RACU 11 shared their expertise on general input about cyber crime and ‘Anti-Bastos Law’ which is the most rampant social issue nowadays, during their collaborative talk in the first part of the activity. They also shared some tips on how to avoid these issues and not be victimized by cybercrime, specifically cyber libel and hacking.

In the afternoon, a socio-cultural program took place that included song and dance entertainment prepared by each vicariate and the awarding of certificates to those deserving evangelizers and the most outstanding parish SoCCom. Various team-building activities were also staged to strengthen the bond among old and new SoCCom members as they joyfully unraveled another milestone—marking together the four-year anniversary of Social Communications Ministry in the Diocese of Mati. SoCCom convention is a biennial occasion in which evangelizers from BECs to parishes within the diocese gather together to share their life experiences in spreading the gospel truth in all walks of life. It is also an expression of the synodal journey and camaraderie among social communicators. (Kyrie Jacky Sobrecarey – Mati SoCCom)
