Mati Catechists Hold 15th Diocesan Convention

LUPON DAVAO ORIENTAL – On August 11 and 12, the Diocesan Catechetical Ministry of the Diocese of Mati convened after long year hiatus. They came together for two days growth, learning and fellowship with this year’s theme, “The Catechists walking together as witnesses of the new life in Christ”.

A general orientation was given to guide thousands of delegates across the diocese. In the afternoon, a catechism took place where Prof. Clarence M. Batan, PhD, emphasized the vital role of catechists in nurturing faith. It was then followed by the opening mass at San Vicente Ferrer Parish, presided by the Parish priest Rev. Fr. Uldarico A. Toroba Jr., together with the Mati Clergy.

A Socio-Cultural event on stage, featuring the crowning of Queen Catechists 2023 happened which was followed by an awarding ceremony and the night concluded with a joyful community dance.

Morning praise and a dance performance led by Lupon’s youth kicked off the continuation program on the second day, and was then followed by the second talk of Prof. Batan’s emphasizing the lasting catechism stories that shape catechists’ spiritual journeys.

On the other hand, Most Rev. Abel C. Apigo, DD, delivered his message through Audio visual presentation, delving into the depth of the convention’s theme, “The Catechists, Walking Together as Witnesses of the New Life in Christ.”

A closing mass took place presided by the Vicar General of Mati, Rev. Msgr. Medardo Salomia together with the Mati Clergy. Giving of certificates and recognition followed, acknowledging the dedication and contributions of the catechists and the people behind the successful event.

Attendees were inspired, re-educated, and united by their shared mission to spread the light of faith through their noble roles. The success of the event was attributed to the combined dedication of various individuals and groups, including the parish staff, devoted catechists, and notably, the supportive parish priest of San Vicente Ferrer Parish of Lupon, Rev. Fr. Uldarico A. Toroba, Jr. (Recca Sercedillo | Photos by Mati SocCom)
