Strengthening the Core

The Our Lady of Fatima Parish Youth Apostolate (OLFYA) marked a significant milestone as they organized their very first summer camp after the pandemic last August 4-6, 2023. Under the guidance and leadership of the Parish Vicar, Rev. Fr. Marvin del Campo, the parish embarked on a three-day journey of spiritual enrichment, camaraderie, and learning at the San Lorenzo College of Davao, Inc. in Talomo.

The camp brought together young individuals from different zones, and 1 group from the Knights of the Altar and the Lectors and Commentators Ministry (LCM). The event aimed to provide a platform for the youth to engage in activities that fostered spiritual growth and teamwork contributing to a holistic development.

As an expression of gratitude, the first day began with a Holy Mass. The celebration served as a reminder of the spiritual significance of the camp, setting a positive and reflective tone for the days ahead. In the evening, the coordinators and committees took the lead in welcoming the participants. Their introduction marked the beginning of a series of performances that showcased the talents of the members of the committees. From music to dance, to drama, the audience was treated to an array of talents that left them amazed. Amidst the cheers and applause, a special moment of symbolism unfolded as a torch was lit. The torch served as a symbol of the camp’s opening, igniting the enthusiasm of all who were present. It represented the start of a new journey, where young minds would come together to learn, grow, and create memories.

The second night highlight was the much-awaited “Youth Got Talent.” This activity brought together the vibrant and diverse talents of campers from zones 1 to 10. Participants took to the spotlight to display their skills in dancing, singing, and acting. The ground buzzed with anticipation as each performance unfolded. From graceful dance moves which told stories through motion, to powerful vocal performances that resonated emotions, and captivating acting, every act was a testament to the campers’ creativity and dedication.

On the last day of the camp, an air of excitement and camaraderie filled the atmosphere. The Team Building day was a true testament to the power of collaboration and unity. All participants, from campers to facilitators, eagerly took part in a series of exhilarating activities that pushed them beyond their limits. Among the highlights were the daring crawl through challenging terrain, the thrilling ‘pass the hula hoop’ game which required seamless coordination, and the intense limbo-rack where participants very much enjoyed.

As the camp came to an end, hearts were full, memories were treasured, and the spirit of togetherness lingered. The Team Building day had reinforced the value of collaboration and the joys of facing challenges as a united front. The campers departed with newfound friendships, lessons in teamwork, and a profound sense of fulfillment that would continue to inspire them long after the camp ended.

A special note of appreciation to our esteemed parish priest, Fr. Severino “Ben” Capulong, and assistant priest, Fr. Marvin del Campo. Their guidance, encouragement, and blessings paved the way for the Summer Youth Camp to be a beacon of positivity and growth for all participants. Their unwavering commitment to the youth and the community has been a driving force behind the success of this endeavor, and their presence has enriched the camp with a spiritual and nurturing atmosphere.

The heartwarming gratitude extends to the dedicated committees that tirelessly worked behind the scenes to ensure the camp’s smooth execution. From meticulous planning to thoughtful coordination, the committees’ efforts were instrumental in creating an environment where campers could thrive, learn, and have fun. Their dedication is a testament to the spirit of community and collaboration that defines the essence of the Summer Youth Camp.

Special thanks for the St. Francis of Asisi Maa Youth who have played an incredible role in making this Summer Youth Camp an extraordinary experience. Their tireless efforts, and boundless creativity have infused the camp with a unique energy that resonated with all participants. From planning logistics to leading activities, the Maa Youth have showcased their commitment to the growth and well-being of the campers. Their selfless dedication is a true testament to the power of youth-driven initiatives and the positive impact they can bring to the community.
