Women and Firefighting

“WE for gender equality and inclusive society” is the recurring theme of the 2024 National Women’s month Celebration. WE stands for Women’s Empowerment, a goal which is achievable when various entities, ranging from agencies and institutions to private partners and duty-bearers at national and local levels, ensure women’s equal rights and opportunities.

In the field of firefighting, women’s employment is already observed despite the fact that firefighting is a very physical work that requires lifting, carrying heavy equipment, climbing huge ladder and buildings, and night shifts. The women are not discriminated in the male-dominated careers like the Bureau of Firefighting Protection. As a matter of fact, Philippines has seven times more female firefighters than the United States.
