A step to spiritual growth

In response to the second objective outlined for the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee, which underscores the Local Church of Davao’s commitment to its synodal journey and addressing emerging pastoral challenges as articulated in the Archdiocesan Pre-Synod Synthesis, the Archdiocesan Liturgical Center, in collaboration with the Archdiocesan Bible Apostolate, has orchestrated a transformative event. Set to unfold on April 14, 2024, at the esteemed Holy Cross of Davao College auditorium, this gathering is poised to be a cornerstone in the spiritual growth and enrichment of its participants.

To be attended by a diverse array of individuals including Pangulo sa Liturhiya, Lector, Pangulo sa Batan-on, Pangulo sa Panudlo, Pangulo sa Pundok Banay, Jubilee Focal Person, and representatives from various educational institutions, this Liturgical Bible Study seeks to foster a profound connection with the readings of the Holy Scriptures. Each parish will be represented by seven delegates, while two representatives will be selected from designated schools, ensuring a broad spectrum of voices and perspectives.

Throughout the event, participants will be organized into smaller cohorts, facilitating meaningful discussions and the exchange of insights. This collaborative approach will culminate in a plenary session where participants will have the opportunity to share their reflections and gleanings.

Moreover, the event will feature a poignant Holy Hour, providing a sacred space for contemplation and prayer, followed by a solemn Holy Mass presided over by Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., the esteemed Archbishop of Davao.

What is a Liturgical Bible Study? It’s a methodical way of examining the Bible that’s closely linked to the Church’s liturgical calendar. Participants dive into Scripture, considering how it fits into the liturgical seasons, feasts, and celebrations observed by the Church throughout the year.

During a Liturgical Bible Study, participants engage with biblical passages that resonate with the themes, readings, or liturgical events of the current season or feast day. This methodology offers a profound opportunity for a deeper understanding of Scripture within the broader framework of the Church’s worship and spiritual life.

Guided by the teachings of the Church and the insights of scholars and theologians, participants embark on a journey of prayer, reflection, discussion, and interpretation of the Scriptures. They draw connections between the biblical texts and the prayers, hymns, and rituals of the liturgy, enriching their worship experience and nurturing their spiritual formation.

In essence, a Liturgical Bible Study serves as a catalyst for the deepening of participants’ knowledge and appreciation of the Word of God, fostering a profound integration of Scripture into the lived experience of faith within the liturgical life of the Church.
