Nurturing the Flock

In today’s world, embodying the qualities of a good shepherd is both a challenge and a calling. Inspired by Psalm 23, which reminds us of God’s unwavering care, we are called to emulate Jesus, the epitome of a Good Shepherd, who laid down His life for us. This entails leadership, protection, and compassionate provision for those under our care—our family, friends, employees, constituents, and beyond.

Synodality, rooted in communion and journeying together, complements the role of a shepherd in the Church. Like the shepherd in the parable of the lost sheep, we are called to prioritize the needs of the abandoned and astray, constantly seeking them out and bringing them back into the fold. Moreover, fostering teamwork and forgiveness are integral to this role, countering the prevailing individualism and promoting a culture of solidarity and mercy.

As we reflect on these timeless teachings, let us strive to be good shepherds in our communities, following the example of Jesus and embracing the spirit of synodality. Through our actions and attitudes, may we bring joy to the heart of the Good Shepherd and contribute to the flourishing of God’s Kingdom on earth.
