To love with all your heart

(An excerpt of the homily of the Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., during the 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time – November 3, 2024 at San Pedro Cathedral Parish.)

Nabati nato ang readings karon, commandments, command. These are in your hearts, in your very person, It’s easy in fact, it’s your nature. Remember our last Sunday atong prayer, “Lord teach us to love what you command,” kay kon we love what you command, dili na command. If we love the commands of the Lord, dili na command; enshrined in our hearts.

Today my dear friends, we have these commandments. Now I’d like to put in context these commandments, by the opening prayer, I’d like to use the opening prayer. “Almighty and merciful God, by whose gift your faithful offer you right and praiseworthy worship, grant we pray that we may hasten without stumbling to receive the things you have promised.”

Part daw namo nga trabaho sa church is to remind us how to behave here..but don’t lose sight of the things he has promised, heavenly destination. With that my dear friends, today, this Sunday we are reminded the key, very important, main guide: the commandments. Two commandments, love God and love your neighbor as yourself.

If you examine it, the ten commandments, the first 3 of the ten, ang summary, love God. And then 7 of the remaining 10, about neighbors. But the obvious difficulty is, my dear friends, with all your heart, all your strength, complete, difficult. That’s why in the prayer today, “Lord grant us the grace. On our own we will stumble.” Ang among steps, ang among destino, ang among speed, to go to heaven should be sustained following the commandments.
