A Life of Faithful Service

Among the remarkable individuals honored as part of the Archdiocese of Davao’s Diamond Jubilee is Sir Eduadro Pacana, a lay leader whose dedication to serving God and the Church has spanned over three decades. For Sir Ed, service is not about recognition but about fulfilling his calling to be a steward of faith and community.

Balancing his career as a manager at Ayala Company with his active involvement in ministry, Sir Ed has shown that commitment to family, work, and Church is possible through trust and perseverance. A loving husband to Isabel, a father to three children, and now a proud grandfather, his life exemplifies how faith begins at home and radiates outward into the wider community.

Sir Ed has worn many hats in his journey of service. As a member of the Bukas Loob sa Diyos (BLD) community for over 30 years, he has touched countless lives through spiritual renewal and fellowship. He also serves as the lay coordinator for the Archdiocesan Council of the Lay Apostale and Integrated Movements (ACLAIM), as a board member of both the Archdiocesan Nourishment Center (ANC), Board of Trustees in the Davao Verbum Dei Media Foundation, Inc. and St. Francis Xavier College Seminary (XaCoSe), and as a lay minister at San Pablo Parish.

During the recently concluded Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Archdiocese, Sir Ed played a vital role as part of the steering committee. He managed transportation logistics, ensuring a smooth experience for everyone involved. Although his efforts were often behind the scenes, they were instrumental in the success of this historic milestone.

When informed of his recognition as one of the Diamond Jubilee awardees, Sir Ed humbly expressed disbelief, feeling that others were more deserving. His initial reaction reflects the humility and authenticity that have characterized his service over the years. Despite his modesty, Sir Ed’s contributions shine brightly as an example of the impact of faithful, consistent work for the Church.

The criteria for selecting awardees were rooted in selfless service and commitment, impactful contributions to the Archdiocese, and living as a true witness of faith. Sir Ed embodies these qualities in every role he takes on, inspiring others to follow suit and reminding us that service to God is both a privilege and a calling.

Reflecting on his experiences, Sir Ed recalls moments of collaboration with fellow lay leaders and the spiritual growth he has gained through service. These memories remind him of the importance of working together to fulfill the Church’s mission and the joy that comes from helping others.

To the next generation of Catholics, Sir Ed offers this heartfelt message: “Commit yourself to serving God and His people with joy and humility. Even the smallest acts of service make a difference, and God’s grace will always sustain you.”

As the Archdiocese of Davao now looks beyond its 75th year, Sir Ed’s story reminds us of the countless individuals whose dedication has shaped its rich history. While the Diamond Jubilee may have concluded, the mission of the Church continues, calling for the same spirit of faith and service. Sir Ed’s life is a testament to what it means to serve with love, humility, and a steadfast commitment to God’s work.

Thank you, Sir Ed, for sharing your journey and for being a true example of faith in action. (Jeralyn Babet A. Palero)
