Davao’s 42nd Parish

The Archdiocese of Davao joyfully marked a milestone in its 75th Diamond Jubilee celebrations with the canonical establishment of Christ the King Parish in Brgy. Kauswagan, Lasang, Davao City, on November 24, 2024, coinciding with the Solemnity of Christ the King.

The Rite of Canonical Establishment, presided over by Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, D.D., was highlighted by a 9:00 AM Eucharistic celebration attended by clergy, religious, and lay faithful from the archdiocese. The event also saw the installation of its first parish priest, Rev. Fr. Dioscoro R. Saniel, who vowed to shepherd this new faith community with dedication and zeal.

This significant moment follows the canonical establishment of San Pedro Calungsod Parish in Baguio last year, October 25, 2023. The back-to-back establishment of these parishes over two consecutive years reflects the Archdiocese’s commitment to fostering spiritual growth and addressing the needs of its expanding faith community.

Archbishop Valles, in his official circular, emphasized the significance of this moment as a testament to the Church’s mission of evangelization and service. Christ the King Parish now stands as the 42nd parish of the Archdiocese of Davao, symbolizing the ever-growing faith and commitment of the local Church in journeying together toward its centennial anniversary in 2049.

This canonical establishment is a call for the faithful to deepen their relationship with Christ the King, drawing strength and inspiration to continue their mission of spreading the Gospel in their communities.
