Guiding Star: Mary as the Beacon of Today’s Youth

For the young people, life often feels like a whirlwind of challenges. Every day, they navigate a maze of school deadlines, family responsibilities, and the expectations of society. Sometimes, they feel like drowning, lost in a sea of doubts and insecurities. It’s in these moments of vulnerability the youth find solace in Mama Mary, their guiding light.

There are times wherein the flame within is waning. The drive and the desire to continue serving in the Church, to pursue studies and to even have the strength to wake up in the morning are some of the challenges of the modern youth. But then again, we look up to our Mother, remembering that no matter how tough life gets, the grace of the Lord will be sufficient. She is a constant reminder of ultimately trusting in the Lord’s providence and guidance.

Mama Mary isn’t just a distant figure in stained glass windows or displayed statues inside the church. Personally, she’s a mother who listens, understands, and comforts. When I feel overwhelmed, I turn to her in prayer, pouring out my frustrations and fears. I imagine her gentle smile, her arms stretched out to embrace me, whispering words of encouragement. It’s like the weight is lifted off my shoulders, and then after that I am reminded that I am not alone in my struggles.

Her life is an inspiration to the youth. As a young woman, she faced immense challenges: being chosen as the Mother of God, enduring the uncertainty of her unique calling, and witnessing her Son’s suffering as she stood at the foot of the Cross. Yet, she remained steadfast, trusting God’s plan even when it didn’t make sense. Her faith teaches us resilience and courage, reminding us that even the hardest paths lead to grace if we trust and persevere.

In facing tough decisions or moments of doubt, we think of Mama Mary’s humility and strength. She didn’t have all the answers, but she trusted God’s will wholeheartedly. Following her example, may the youth learn to surrender their anxieties to God, knowing that through her intercession, He will guide us toward the light.

Life’s struggles won’t disappear, but with Mama Mary as the youth’s guide, together we bravely face them with hope and faith. She reminds me that we are loved, cherished, and capable of overcoming anything with God by our side. We find peace, strength, and the courage to keep moving forward with the help of Mary, our beacon and guiding light. (Allyza Hope Tabigue, SMPRP SoCCom)
