2025 Year of Faith, Hope, Love
FAITH. In 2024, the Vatican made three (3) announcements regarding the Philippine Church. 1. The creation of the 87th diocese of Prosperidad, Agusan Del Sur. 2. CBCP President Bishop David became a cardinal. 3. Pope Francis sent a papal congratulatory message to the Archdiocese of Davao regarding its 75th anniversary which was read on November 29 at the SMX closing program. Strong Faith equals strong affection for the Filipino faithful.
HOPE. The 120 million Filipino are preparing for the May 12, 2025 elections for senators, congressmen, governors, mayors, councilors, etc. The power of social media is now a deep part of the Filipino. Less people buy and read newspapers. More watch TV. 80% rely on cellphones, tablets, and computers for information. We are bombarded 24 hours with stories from Tiktok, Internet, etc. Unfortunately, nobody knows if the stories are true or propaganda or lies laced with bits of truths and half truths. The 120 million Filipinos are confused and frightened because the social media platform is now part of our daily life. It is good that in every political crisis, heaven gives a solution. Last October 2024, NAMFREL (National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections) partnered with 2 church entities, the CBCP (Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines) and the PPCRV (Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting) to help the Filipino in voting for honest candidates. In the 2022 and 2023 elections, NAMFREL and PPCRV had less than 40 days to prepare. This time, preparations began last November up to May 2025. The key word is “Volunteers” for a clean and honest elections.
LOVE. The 2023 and 2024 world droughts and weather changes made more people hungry, sick and dying. The world responds by giving food, medicine and help is improving but still not enough. The story of the Good Samaritan and the plea of Jesus to all to “feed my lamb, tend my flock” should be one of our concerns this year with love, yes we can.
