A Celebration of Life: Archbishop Romulo G. Valles Leads Funeral Mass for Sr. Emma A. Dublan

On January 13, 2025, Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., the Archbishop of Davao, presided over the Order of Christian Funerals for Sr. Emma A. Dublan, PM, at the Chapel of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in Catalunan Grande, Davao City. Sr. Emma, who was born on December 10, 1944, passed away on January 7, 2025.

The solemn occasion was attended by family members, relatives, benefactors, friends, and the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, who gathered to honor the life and legacy of Sr. Emma. A significant number of priests were also present, with Sr. Emma’s brother, Rev. Fr. Leonardo “Bong” A. Dublan Jr., joining the concelebration of the Holy Mass.

Rev. Fr. Jerick B. Asdang proclaimed the Holy Gospel, setting the spiritual tone for the service. In his homily, Archbishop Valles offered words of comfort and hope to the grieving assembly. “In the midst of tears, in Christian funerals, it is okay to cry,” he acknowledged. “But do not worry so much, do not allow your tears to defeat you, because the person who is dead, like here our dear Sr. Emma, is now beginning to enjoy the victory of Christ.”

The Archbishop’s words provided solace, reminding the faithful that death is not an end but a passage to eternal life, where the faithful are united with Christ in His victory over death. His message resonated deeply with those in attendance, who took comfort in knowing that Sr. Emma’s journey was one of faith and dedication.

Sr. Emma A. Dublan’s life was marked by her commitment to the religious life and her service to others. As a member of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, she devoted herself to the mission of the Church and touched many lives through her example of compassion, humility, and prayer. Her passing left a void, but her memory and the example of her life continue to inspire those who knew her.

The funeral mass was a heartfelt tribute to a woman who had lived a life of faith and service. As the community gathered to bid farewell, they were reminded that, although they would miss her physical presence, Sr. Emma’s spirit would live on in the hearts of those she had touched throughout her life.

In the final rites, Archbishop Valles entrusted Sr. Emma’s soul to God, offering prayers for her eternal rest. The ceremony concluded with a sense of peace and hope, as the congregation was reminded that death is but a step toward the fullness of life in Christ. (Sem. Aljon Mayol)
