Becoming One Body

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, held annually from January 18 to 25, serves as a powerful reminder of Christ’s call in John 17:11, “…that they may be one, even as we are one.” While full unity among Christians may remain a distant goal, celebrations like this inspire hope and progress.

This year’s theme, “Do you believe this?” (John 11:26), calls Christians to renew their shared faith as we commemorate the 1,700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicea in 325 A.D., a defining moment of unity in Christian history.

In Davao, the Archdiocese has organized nightly gatherings in various churches and institutions, bringing Catholics and Protestants together in prayer and fellowship. These events are more than symbolic—they strengthen bonds of goodwill and encourage collaboration among Christian communities.

This celebration is a testimony to what unites us: belief in Christ and a shared mission to love and serve. Beyond this week, let us strive to carry forward this spirit of unity, acknowledging differences while focusing on our common purpose.

In coming together as one Body of Christ, we reflect the Gospel’s transformative power and take meaningful steps toward the unity our Lord desires.
