One of the major festivals celebrated throughout the Philippines is the feast of Senior Santo Niño, which is traditionally celebrated every 3rd Sunday of January.

On January 19, 2025, St. Joseph The Worker Parish in Sasa, Davao City celebrated the 3rd Anniversary of HUDYAKA in honor of the Feast of Senior Santo Niño. To have a more meaningful and joyous celebration, it started with a Fluvial Procession led by the Parish Priest Fr. Leonardo A. Dublan Jr.

The fluvial procession started with a prayer at Km. 11 Lansta Port, followed by a festive dancing by the HUDYAKA Dancers. The image of Senior Santo Niño was carried on a boat, followed by four other boats with representatives of GKKs.

Upon arrival of the Fluvial Procession at Waterfront Insular Hotel Docking Port, the Image of Senior Santo Niňo was welcomed by the HUDYAKA Dancers and parishioners. A prayer was led by Fr. Dublan at the Waterfront Lobby area, followed by a 5-minute dance of HUDYAKA Dancers.

From the fluvial procession, the Holy Cross College of Sasa Musicians and vehicles of 4 GKKs, whose Patron is Santo Niňo, led the street procession going to St. Joseph Parish. Fr. Bong Dublan and the rest of the participants and devotees followed.

People happily joined in the festive dancing going to St. Joseph Parish for the 9:00 a.m. Holy Mass presided by Fr. Leonardo A. Dublan Jr.

Fr. Bong said that it is great to celebrate this unique Filipino way of devotion wherein we have a special eye in our faith to see Jesus in His infancy and it is said that this is an extension of Christmas because we celebrate the life of Jesus as an infant, as a child as a young boy and so, with this celebration, we are encouraged to express the sense of innocence in our life.

Fr. Dublan explained why dancing is always incorporated in various celebrations such as Ati-Atihan, Dinagyang or Sinulog in honor of Santo Niňo. This is because the dance for Sto. Niňo is a dance of praise, a dance of prayer and a dance full of innocence as children of God.

After the final blessing, all parishioners danced to praise and pray to Senior Santo Niňo.

After every mass, the blessing of Santo Niňo statues and images followed.

Viva Pit Senior!!!
