Living Hopeful Stewards in a Synodal Way
On January 26, 2025, the Spirituality of Stewardship (SOS) in St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Sasa, Davao City, celebrated its 4th Anniversary with the theme: “Synodal Journey of Stewards: Deepening Our Trust and Hope in the Lord”.
Rev. Fr. Leonardo A. Dublan, Jr., Parish Priest, initiated the SOS in January 2021, and the first SOS Practitioners were the Parish Pastoral Team (PPT) and Parish Staff. The Formation Team for SOS was created to conduct orientation and seminars on Stewardship which started with the ministries and cascaded to the GKKs belonging to the Parish.
On the 4th SOS Anniversary, the total Practitioners in St. Joseph The Worker Parish is already 1,762.
To have a joyful celebration, the activities started on the first Sunday of January which focused on the Core Values: Gratitude, Trust, and Love paired with 7 Areas of God’s Gift, to wit: Faith, Service, Vocation, GKK, Family/Life, Ecology, and Temporalities.
The Holy Mass for SOS Anniversary was celebrated at 9:00 am presided by Most Reverend George Rimando, Auxiliary Bishop of Davao, with Fr. Bong Dublan and Fr. Evan Esmade, the Parish Vicar.
In his Homily, Bishop Rimando was happy to celebrate the gift of Stewards, which has reached its fourth year in its journey. In addition, he also mentioned that the 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time this January is designated as Sunday of the Word of God, thus making it as the National Bible Sunday.
Bishop Rimando said that in developing stewardship, there is hope in being a steward of God’s goodness. Therefore, we are stewards of the Word of God, which is the source of life.
Moreover, he stated that the celebration of Jubilee Year of Hope gives us hope. Our identity as Stewards of God is a beautiful gift that God has given us. We are called to become a steward of His Loving Mercy to all. With that, as Stewards of the Word of God, we must know the importance of reading the Bible.
One way of expressing Stewardship is a relationship with the Lord driven by the spirit, helping one another, and journeying in the hope of being a good steward of God.
After the mass, the General Assembly for SOS Practitioners followed with fellowship lunch at the 3rd Floor New Building.
Always remember that “Every gift is a responsibility”, recognize every gift, nurture it and share it with others. (Emy Gamorot)
