Solemn Celebration Marks World Day for Consecrated Life in Archdiocese of Davao

Most Rev. Romulo Valles, D.D. presided over the solemn celebration of the Holy Eucharist on February 2, 2025, in observance of World Day for Consecrated Life at San Pedro Cathedral. A significant number of religious men and women attended the event.

It was in 1997 that Saint Pope John Paul II established the World Day for Consecrated Life, which is celebrated each year on February 2nd. This special day of prayer honors men and women who have dedicated their lives to God. These individuals—religious sisters, brothers, and priests—take vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, committing themselves to a life of service, prayer, and devotion.

In his homily, Archbishop Valles highlighted the day’s liturgical celebration—the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord—when Mary and Joseph brought the infant Jesus to the temple. This important moment in Jesus’ life emphasizes the importance of offering ourselves fully to God. Similarly, those living consecrated lives offer their whole selves to God, just as Mary and Joseph offered Jesus.

The good Archbishop concluded his homily by expressing his deep gratitude to the various congregations for their time, commitment, and service. He emphasized that World Day for Consecrated Life is a special occasion to thank all religious men and women for their dedication and service within the Archdiocese.

After the celebration of the Holy Mass, a fellowship dinner was held in the Cathedral’s auditorium, providing religious men and women with the opportunity to engage in conversation, share experiences, and enjoy each other’s company. (Sem. Roldan Baliano)
