The Chair of St. Peter

The Chair of St. Peter is a symbol of papal authority and the unity of the Catholic Church. This authority is designed to guide and lead the faithful, numbering more than a billion all over the world. No wonder, for twenty centuries, the teachings of faith and morals have been preserved no matter who sits on the Chair. The truths have been protected by the Holy Spirit and the divine guarantee was spoken by Jesus to Peter when they were at Caesarea Philippi that the gates of hell will never prevail against it.

There have been setbacks as the Church has been attacked continually both internally and externally, even today. After all, the Church is founded by God but is made up of man. Yet, we are celebrating this Jubilee full of hope. Long after this generation is gone, the certainty of continuity is always there. The Pope sitting on the Chair of Peter, clothed with infallibility will continue to point to Jesus who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. And rest assured, God sends us Popes as the right medicine for every era, until His Son returns.

Let us go to Holy Mary, our Mother of Hope, to free us from our fears and fill us with hope. Amen.
