Celebrating Faith and Goodness

The 26th GKK Fiesta of San Jose, Esposo ni Maria, which belongs to the Immaculate Conception Parish in Mintal was a grand celebration of faith, unity, and devotion. Held on March 19, 2025 the highlight of the event was a solemn Fiesta Mass in Elenita Heights, Catalunan Grande, presided over by Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao.

The theme, “San Jose: Sumbanan sa Usa ka Matarong nga Amahan diha sa Usa ka Matarong nga Simbahan”, underscored St. Joseph’s role as a guide and inspiration for the faithful. Led by the Pangulo sa Katilingban (PSK) Elsie Gahuman, the event was marked by a nine-day novena mass, a solemn procession, and a deeply inspiring homily from Archbishop Valles.

In his message, he reminded the faithful that fiestas are more than just traditions; they are celebrations of faith, a moment to strengthen one’s relationship with God. He emphasized that every fiesta is a coming together of God’s children, a priceless moment of unity, and a reminder that faith is essential in daily life. The Archbishop also reflected on the deep spirituality of Filipinos, noting that in the presence of God, all are equal.

“Every fiesta, we are saying, ‘Lord, we cannot go on without you,’ and that is very important.” Archbishop Valles stressed in his homily that every fiesta is a declaration of trust in the Lord.

He further connected St. Joseph’s life to the Holy Mass, highlighting key insights, including his firm faith and trust in God, his role as a protector and guardian of Jesus and Mary, and his life of humility and service, which serves as a model for all believers.

“The mission of the Church is to cultivate goodness in people, just like St. Joseph did,” he said, reminding the congregation that the love of God felt in faith is what draws people to celebrate together.

The 26th GKK Fiesta was more than just an event; it was an evidence to the enduring faith of the San Jose community. Through the novena masses, the procession, and the Holy Eucharist, the devotion of the people reflected how St. Joseph continues to inspire believers to lead lives of righteousness and service.

As the faithful returned to their homes, they carried with them the Archbishop Valles’ message: faith is a journey that brings people together, and with St. Joseph as a model, the Church remains strong in its mission to nurture love, goodness, and unity among its people.
