CWL: Bearers of Hope
On March 18, 2025, the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) of the Archdiocese of Davao held its 32nd biennial convention at the Grand Men Seng Hotel. The registration began at 7:00 am with CWL members from 8 vicarates and 28 parishes within the archdiocese.
Before the Eucharistic Celebration, the LOH Prayer has been recited, led by Sis. Rosa B. Sumampong followed by the Floral Offering being done by the CWL’s St. Francis of Assisi Unit.
The Eucharistic Celebration was presided by Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao. During his homily, the Archbishop explained that stemming from the Jubilee of Hope, we should represent ourselves as the pilgrims of hope, and as pilgrims, we should be willing to do the act of traveling, leaving and going. We are hopeful because Christ is with us, coming with us and accompanies us.
After the Holy Mass, Archbishop Valles thanked the CWL community for its growth, especially CWL juniors who will continue its mission to promote Catholic Values and engage in volunteer and charity work, with a motto of “Charity, Work, Loyalty.”
The program officially began with the Processional & Entrance of Colors—a showcase of the members and officers, followed by the National Anthem, performed by Leonora M. Charcos. The CWL’s Archdiocesan President, Teresita E. Malones, did the Formal Opening of the Convention, with the Archdiocesan Secretary, Sonia D. Laglagaron, presenting the delegates and the Archdiocesan 1st Vice President, Daylinda Regis, making the Welcome Address.
An Archdiocesan Board Member, Natividad Coquilla, had the honor of introducing the Keynote Speaker, who is CWL’s National Primary Area Supervisor, Conchita M. dela Cruz. Immediately after, the CWL National President, Angelita M. Abel, gave an enlightening message. The Archdiocesan President, Teresita E. Malones, and Archdiocesan Treasurer, Leonora M. Charcos, present their individual reports before the serving of lunch.
After lunch, they conduct the elections to determine the new set of archdiocesan officers and board members for the 2025-2027 term. The election proper has been handled by Archdiocesan Consultant Anastacia M. Armigos. After some time for deliberation, the newly elected officers and board members were introduced by Mrs. Conchita M. dela Cruz.
The Archdiocesan Adviser, Rosa B. Sumampong, handles the closing remarks and prayer. To formally end the convention, the CWL Hymn was sung, with Mrs. Angelita B. Gonzaga performing.
The CWL of the Archdiocese of Davao, with its 79th year of existence since 1946, continues to prosper with the growth of its senior and junior members. (Alessandro and Pamela Millabe)
