DCOTT Prepares for Holy Week Travel Surge
Davao City, March 25, 2025 – As Holy Week approaches, the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) is strengthening its security and operational measures to ensure a safe and smooth experience for travelers. Authorities have implemented several improvements to accommodate the expected increase in passengers.
According to Aisa Usop, manager of DCOTT, during the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps event with the theme, “PEACE, NOT WAR; FOR LOVE, NOT HATRED; FOR UNITY, NOT CONFLICT,” security measures have been enhanced with the addition of three new baggage X-ray machines to improve baggage screening and 32 CCTV cameras to monitor activities within the facility. Officials are also strictly enforcing the “No Pick-up Policy” to prevent unauthorized transport services from operating outside the terminal. Passengers are reminded to board only at legitimate terminals, as unregistered vans along highways pose potential risks.
“Ayaw jud mo pagtuo anang mga canvasser kay illegal jud na kanang mga along the highway. Ang mga van nga legit, naa jud sa terminal. Diha jud mo sakay sa mga legal terminal,” Usop reminded the public.
Authorities have been preparing for the travel rush by holding meetings with transport task force leaders to ensure smooth operations. While long lines are expected, the additional security equipment aims to speed up the process without compromising safety. Strict inspections remain in place, as prohibited items such as knives, smuggled cigarettes, and firearms are frequently intercepted.
“Hopefully, medyo paspas na ang proseso pero dili pud jud mawala ang kanang pila,” Usop said.
Passengers are encouraged to arrive early to allow enough time for security inspections and boarding procedures. Officials acknowledge that while they are working to speed up the process, safety remains their top priority, and certain security measures cannot be compromised.
In response to previous complaints, the terminal has upgraded its public restrooms to improve passenger convenience. Online booking services will also continue, allowing travelers to secure their tickets in advance and avoid long queues.
Every year, thousands of people travel home to their provinces to spend time with their families, leading to a significant increase in passengers. Because of this, DCOTT continues to make every effort to accommodate everyone efficiently and provide a safe and organized transport system.
“Amoa jud goal kay ma-accommodate ang mga pasahero ug mahatagan ug comfortable experience,” Usop said.
With the support of law enforcement and military personnel, the terminal is ready to handle the Holy Week rush while maintaining a secure environment for everyone. As travelers embark on their journeys to be with their families, officials encourage them to plan ahead, stay vigilant, and cooperate with terminal guidelines to ensure a smooth and hassle-free trip.
