LCCP Convention 2025: Pilgrims of Hope in Mission
March 1, 2025 – The recently concluded 14th Lector, Commentator, Choir, and Psalmist (LCCP) Convention at St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary of Mindanao was more than a gathering—it was a reaffirmation of faith and mission. Centered on the theme “LCCP: Pilgrims of Hope,” the event called liturgical ministers to embrace their roles as bearers of light amid the challenges of the times.
A highlight of the convention was the plenary session delivered by Rev. Fr. Edilberto Mahinay, who reflected on Romans 5:5—”Spes non confundit” (Hope does not disappoint). He challenged the attendees to deepen their commitment, reminding them that their service is not just about reading Scripture or singing hymns, but about proclaiming God’s hope in a world longing for it.
In his homily, Archbishop Romulo Valles offered a powerful image of the LCCP members as “God’s microphone,” emphasizing that their voices must not only resonate in the church but also in their communities. He reminded them that being a liturgical minister is a responsibility beyond the Mass—it is a way of life.
Throughout the convention, participants immersed themselves in liturgical workshops, deepening their understanding of their ministries. Breakout sessions ranged from speech competence and the spirituality of proclaiming to the role of music in the liturgy. Beyond the technical aspects, the discussions centered on how LCCP ministers can be sources of encouragement—not just in the sanctuary, but in their families and workplaces as well.
The event concluded with a renewed sense of mission. As the 2,600 participants returned to their respective parishes, they carried more than just insights from the sessions; they carried the challenge to be witnesses of hope—through their voices, their service, and their unwavering faith.
“Spes non confundit.” Hope does not disappoint. Indeed, as pilgrims of hope, the journey does not end—it continues in every proclamation, in every song, in every act of service that brings the faithful closer to God. (Leah Andrino-Memorial)
