Parish Youth Lenten Recollection 2025 Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish

Hope does not disappoint

Today, April 12, 2025, a group of 138 individuals, comprising youth leaders and members of the parish, participated in the Parish Youth Lenten Recollection held at the Missionaries of the Assumption Farm in Barangay Tacunan, Tugbok District, Davao City. The event was centered around the theme of Romans 5:5, “Hope Does Not Disappoint,” which set the tone for a day filled with deep reflection, valuable lessons, and personal sharing. The event provided an opportunity for the youth to reflect on their faith, grow spiritually, and strengthen their understanding of their roles as leaders within the church, especially in the context of the Lenten season.

Sr. Madel Compendio, MA, primary facilitators, took the lead in guiding the participants through the day’s activities. She focused on the critical importance of developing a strong, personal relationship with God. In her sessions, Sr. Madel emphasized that while life often brings with it many challenges and difficulties, nothing is truly impossible when one’s faith is firmly anchored in God. She spoke about how, through faith, individuals can face even the toughest struggles with hope and perseverance. Sr. Madel’s message resonated with the participants, encouraging them to deepen their trust in God and rely on His strength in times of hardship. Her words highlighted how faith serves as both a shield and a source of empowerment, allowing the youth to navigate life’s challenges with confidence.

Rev. Fr. Leif M. Simbajon, DCD, the parish priest, also shared an inspiring message with the attendees during his homily. He took the opportunity to remind them that being chosen as youth leaders in the church is never a mere coincidence. Rather, he emphasized that such appointments are part of God’s divine plan. Fr. Simbajon explained that God, in His infinite wisdom, has specifically selected those individuals because He recognizes their potential and believes in their abilities. The youth leaders are entrusted with their roles not by chance, but because God knows they have the necessary qualities and skills to lead effectively. He urged the young people to embrace their positions with humility and dedication, recognizing the responsibility they bear in serving the church and their community.

Furthermore, Fr. Simbajon highlighted the importance of remaining hopeful in Christ. He reassured the youth that, no matter what obstacles they may face, they could always rely on God’s grace and strength to overcome challenges. His message emphasized that hope, when placed in Christ, is never in vain. By staying hopeful, individuals can remain resilient and confident in their ability to achieve great things. He spoke of the importance of keeping one’s focus on Christ, especially in moments of uncertainty, as doing so opens the door to endless possibilities and the fulfillment of God’s plan for their lives.

Throughout the day, the participants engaged in moments of reflection, prayer, and sharing. These activities allowed the youth to share their personal experiences, reflect on their spiritual journeys, and deepen their understanding of their calling as leaders in the church. The event also served as a reminder of the significance of community, as the youth came together to strengthen their bonds with one another and with God. It became a space for mutual support, encouragement, and collective growth.

In conclusion, the Parish Youth Lenten Recollection was a powerful and transformative experience for all who attended. The messages of faith, hope, and divine purpose shared by Sr. Madel and Fr. Simbajon were impactful and left a lasting impression on the youth. The day reinforced the idea that leadership within the church is not just about fulfilling a role, but about serving with a heart full of faith, hope, and trust in God’s guidance. It was a reminder that, through a strong relationship with God and the hope found in Christ, nothing is impossible. This event not only strengthened the youth’s sense of purpose but also empowered them to face their future challenges with renewed hope and unwavering faith. (Kristelle Billones)
