A Great Great Father

It would be nine years since my father passed away on June 16, 2025. How I wish he’d be here as we celebrate Father’s Day today. I miss him, though I grew up with an absentee father because of his job and then later on when my parents separated. My father made it a point to visit and spend quality time with us. I learned to love music and movies because of him. He was good at videoke and love to belt out songs by Matt Monroe and Frank Sinatra during family gatherings. He may not be the perfect father but he cared on the best way he could and with that I appreciate him. Now that my father is not around anymore, I found solace knowing that he’s watching over me from up above.

Same with my husband, a father to our two daughters who are now young adults who also passed away 14 years ago, whom I believe continues to look after us is very reassuring in times of hardships. When he was still alive, he was my anchor and a dependable son and brother to his immediate family. As a husband and father, he was loving, responsible and my partner in taking good care of the kids. He was their first teacher as it was his profession teaching college students. Losing him as he battled kidney disease at the young age of 39 broke my heart but eventually accepted it knowing he won’t be suffering anymore.

Missing two father figures in my life and reminiscing their goodness makes me thankful for knowing and being a part of their journey while they where still alive. I hope they are in a better place and a part with God’s angels watching over us.

Although, I don’t have a father anymore but I have a great great Father that is God. He is always there for me, a widow and for my fatherless children. Whether I’m good or bad, He forgives and comforts me. When challenges come, he guides me and sends people to help me. What a great Father I have right now whom I can depend and that is… God!

Dearest Lord, thank you for all the fathers out there who are trying their best to become the father that you want them to be. May they continue to be a blessing to their family. Please help them Jesus when their responsibilities become overwhelming. May your comfort assure them to do what is right and best not only for their family but also for their community.

Thank you also Lord for being our Father who sees the goodness in us despite our being a sinner. Through good times and bad you never leave our side. Thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to be our companion at all times. This we pray in Jesus mighty name and through the intercession of our dear Mother Mary, Amen.

“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.” – Psalm 68:5

Happy Father’s day to all fathers out there!
