A Community United in Prayer and Faith: Graceful Visit of the Immaculate Heart of Mary of Pontevedra

With hearts full of devotion, the faithful of the Archdiocese of Davao joyfully welcomed the Pilgrim Image of the Immaculate Heart of Mary of Pontevedra, Spain. The image arrived on July 20. The welcome Mass was celebrated by Fr. Ariel Bulan, MJ in San Miguel Parish, Marahan on July 20, 2025 at 7:00 A.M. The image was brought to the Parishes of San Pedro Cathedral, Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Sta. Ana Shrine Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Immaculate Conception Parish in Mintal and Sto. Rosario Parish in Toril. The six-day visit became a deeply spiritual experience for the community, filled with prayer, reflection, and unity.

The Parish of the Immaculate Conception in Mintal, a Holy Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Jasper Alfeche, who emphasized in his homily the importance of trust in God, especially during uncertain times. He invited the faithful to reflect deeply, just as Mary did, and to respond to God with love and humility.

Throughout the day, different activities were held to honor Our Lady. The Holy Rosary with meditation was prayed together with students, faculty, and the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary of the Holy Cross of Mintal, Inc. As each mystery unfolded, everyone was reminded of Mary’s love and her call to live with faith, compassion, and humility.

The GKK Servant Leaders, especially from the PSK, PSKB, TPB, PSP, PSA, Secretaries, and Treasurers, also gathered in deep prayer. They reflected on the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary, drawing inspiration from Mary’s unwavering discipleship and the hope found in Christ’s Resurrection. These sacred moments served as a renewal of their commitment to serve their respective GKK communities with faith and dedication.

On July 24, another Holy Mass was presided by Rev. Fr. Zenon Ampong. A great number of parishioners and leaders participated with love and devotion. In his homily, Fr. Zenon described the Immaculate Heart of Mary as a symbol of quiet strength, total surrender to God, and deep faith. He encouraged everyone to imitate Mary’s heart in their daily lives.

That evening, the ICP Youth Apostolate led a special overnight vigil. The young people reflected on the Joyful and Sorrowful Mysteries, journeying with Mary through moments of joy and suffering. Through silent prayer, songs, and meditation, they expressed their love and devotion, asking Mary to guide them closer to Jesus.

This grace-filled visit of the Pilgrim Image reminded everyone of Mary’s constant presence in our lives and her motherly call to prayer, penance, and conversion. It was a time of great spiritual renewal for the whole community. As the image continues its pilgrimage, may our hearts remain inspired by Mary’s example and strengthened in our journey of faith.
