Designed by God as Custodians
In the book of Genesis, we hear at the end of each day of creation, “…and God saw that it was good.” His creation is full of potential, and it is part of our mission to make it better. He is a God surrounded by beings – participating, each with God-given gifts to be materialized in a lifetime. When that potential is materialized, it is God’s glory.
We are co-creators managing His creation. We harness the power of the wind, the sun, geothermal resources, and the like as much as possible without compromising the prosperity of future generations. Some examples of sustainable courses of action include, tapping the rainforests for treatments, regulating the harvest of the blue economy, working to address social injustices, and promoting a culture of life. These are some of the ways we can excel and please God.
However, we lament that last 2024, 2.6 trillion dollars and counting, was spent for weaponry, which could have been spent for food production, or education and medical science. The rampant promotion of gambling which does not have any virtue, results in the destruction of countless families is an ongoing travesty. Crimes like human trafficking, illegal drugs, corporate greed, the thirst for absolute power, and others, destroy the welfare and growth of nations. Worse, ideologies like wokeism and scientology, put man on a pedestal, which more often than not, as seen in history, resulted in disaster.
Clearly, there are many more things to be done. Knowing the Good will triumph, we call upon everyone not to fall into despair at the state of our world. After all, God never loses battles, especially in our effort to mirror Him as co-creators.
St. Francis of Assisi teaches us how to share in God’s love through responsible care for His creation. We pray that we may be good custodians as well.
