SoCCom as Digital Missionaries: SMPRP-GKK SoCCom Quarterly Formation

The Parish Seminar Hall was filled with faith and fellowship last August 31, 2025, as the GKK SoCCom of St. Mary of the Perpetual Rosary Parish gathered for its Regular Quarterly Formation Meeting. The day began at eight o’clock in the morning with registration, followed by an opening prayer led by Sis. Maria Dexie Calvo and a warm welcome message from Sis. Hermelita Mapute, Parish SoCCom Coordinator.

The formation opened with a talk by Bro. Arsenio “JB” Berdera Jr., SoCCom of GKK Sto. Niño, Lapanday who re-echoed the DADITAMA SoCCom Convention held on June 27–29, 2025, at St. Francis Xavier College – Regional Major Seminary, Catalunan Grande, Davao City. He shared key insights on the role of SoCCom as missionaries, highlighting how digital platforms can be transformed into spaces for prayer and evangelization. He also shared practical tips on writing, photography, and videography as tools for spreading God’s message, reminding members to seek God’s guidance and remain faithful digital disciples.

The momentum continued with the second talk by Bro. Joseph D. Laparan, OFM, who discussed “Social Communication Ministry: A Review, Serving the Gospel through Media.” Drawing from significant Church documents such as Inter Mirifica, Communio et Progressio, and Aetatis Novae, he reminded members that media should not be used merely for publicity but as a ministry that nurtures communion and mission. Bro. Laparan emphasized that when communication is rooted in the Church’s mission, it can become a powerful instrument to promote unity, foster dialogue, and bring the Good News to a wider audience. He pointed out that the work of social communication is not simply a technical task but a grace-filled calling. SoCCom members, he explained, are mission partners called to speak the truth with love, use technology wisely, and pour out love with purpose in the work of evangelization.

Rev. Fr. Orlando Angelia, parish priest also heard a short message from, who expressed gratitude to the SoCCom Ministry and encouraged members to continue embracing their missionary role. Sis. Hermelita Mapute then revisited the GKK Norms and Guidelines from the Yellow Book for the Social Communication Committee, reminding members of their duties, functions, and the dos and don’ts of the ministry. She also announced upcoming parish activities.

The meeting concluded with community singing, followed by a final prayer and adjournment at noon. The gathering left participants both inspired and challenged to use digital spaces not merely for communication, but as true platforms of communion, prayer, and mission.
