Faith, Fellowship, and Fiesta: The 3rd Parochial Celebration of San Pedro Calungsod Parish

The spirit of unity and faith shines once again as the San Pedro Calungsod Parish joyfully celebrates its 3rd Parochial Fiesta with the theme “San Pedro Calungsod, Sundoan mo Ang Panig-ing, Giya sa Pagtuo aron sa Pagmugna sa Kahiusahan ug Kalingkawasan.” This year’s celebration is a heartfelt journey of pilgrimage, prayer, and community—an expression of deep devotion to the young Visayan saint who continues to inspire the faithful in living out their Christian mission.

The festivities began in September 2025 with the Pilgrimage of San Pedro Calungsod, visiting various GKKs (Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban) across different zones. From GKK Sto. Niño of Carmen Zone 3 to GKK Birhen del Rosario of Paquito Zone 4, each community welcomed the pilgrim image with songs, prayers, and genuine joy. The journey continued into October, with GKK Immaculate Conception in Baguio Zone 1 leading the faithful in spiritual preparation before the much-awaited parish celebration.

As the feast drew near, novena schedules filled the parish calendar, uniting the different barangays and GKKs in collective prayer. Every evening, the faithful gathered to offer the Holy Mass and novena, strengthening their faith and communal ties. These nightly gatherings became not only moments of worship but also living reminders of the Church’s call to solidarity and compassion.

On October 20, the air was filled with devotion and excitement as the grand procession took place. Parishioners assembled at the church by 3:00 PM, bringing with them images of saints, candles, and banners that represented their communities. The procession route—spanning from the parish to Wines, Ventura, Gumalang, Malagos, and back—became a moving testament of faith and gratitude. The solemn march concluded with the celebration of the Holy Mass, bringing together hearts filled with reverence and joy.

The highlight of the entire celebration came on October 21, the grand Fiesta Day. The day began early with the first Mass at 6:00 AM, followed by the Pontifical Mass at 9:30 AM presided over by Rev. Msgr. Paul Cuison. At 11:00 AM, beautifully arranged table displays showcased the creativity and unity of each GKK, followed by a festive fellowship lunch at noon. In the afternoon, parishioners gathered for fun-filled activities such as the Larong Pinoy, raffle draws, and role presentations that engaged both youth and adults. A friendly basketball game between clergy and barangay officials brought laughter and camaraderie to all, capped off by an awarding ceremony that celebrated the spirit of togetherness.

Through prayer, service, and joyful celebration, the San Pedro Calungsod Parish once again proved that faith thrives best in community. The fiesta was more than just a series of events—it was a manifestation of love, cooperation, and the enduring faith that binds every member of the Church. Truly, as San Pedro Calungsod being one of the two canonized Filipino saints to continues interceding for his fellow Filipinos, bearing his legacy of courage and devotion lives on in the hearts of the faithful in Davao.
