Take Time to Rest
As a mother, my love language is acts of service. I love to cook for my family, clean the house and doing the laundry especially now that we have transferred to our old home and now living on our own.
During our first few weeks I found myself overworked in unboxing our belongings and doing household chore. As the children noticed it, they asked me if I could slow down. They observed that I am not having complete rest as I woke up earlier than usual just to do the cooking and other chores.
Being a mom of two young adults, one working from home, the other assisting her sibling and still looking for her own job, I found myself doing most of the household chores while the kids are busy with their work. However, the children called out my attention that I don’t have to do everything and that we can make a schedule and share the load of doing household chores. They encourage me to take time to rest. They also said that we can share the household chores and that as an adult they want to be included in the responsibilities at home. They wanted to share the burden of it all and with that I’m so grateful.
Taking time to rest is not just doing anything, my kids suggested for me to indulge on things I love like reading books, journaling, watching Kdramas and taking the time to spend some time with friends and other family members I seldom see. Sometimes, we take for granted that our body needs rest not just physically, emotionally but also mentally. We have to listen to our bodies and should ask for help when we become overwhelmed in doing chores at home. Whether you are a new wife, a first-time mom, mother of grown-up children, a working mom, you really need time to rest.
On another note, amidst the chaos of the day, I found praying the rosary as restful and comforting in the quiet of the night, early dawn or even in the midst of traffic. This month of the Holy Rosary, may we surrender to the Lord through the intercession of our dear Mother Mary our day-to-day activities. Aside from that may our rosary intentions be centered to the victims of recent natural and man-made calamities in the country. May we also offer a rosary prayer for our government officials that they may do their duties diligently. Let us also pray for our church leaders and priests that they may continue to lead us and make us closer to God with increased faith and integrity.
Dearest Lord, we offer to you our day-to-day activities. Please remind us to be mindful of our bodies when it’s time to rest. Send us our families or friends to help us that we may be able relax every once in a while.
Also, may we find comfort and strength through the intercession of our dear Mother Mary in everything that we do. Amen.
Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us.
