Church renews appeal for aid after second typhoon in a week

Amid the devastation caused by super typhoon Uwan, Caritas Philippines has renewed its appeal for donations to help communities battered by recent natural disasters.

The Church’s national humanitarian arm said thousands of families lost their homes, livelihoods, and access to basic needs due to the recent storms that struck the country.

“Your kindness can help them rebuild their lives,” the national Caritas said. “Share what you can and be a channel of mercy and love.”

Donations may be sent through Caritas Philippines (CBCP Caritas Philippines Foundation Inc.) via the following accounts:

BPI: 4951-007116 / 4951-007108
Metrobank: 632-7-632028586
BDO: 004508034192

Donors are requested to send proof of donation to alaykapwa@caritas.org.ph.

“Together, let us be a source of hope and healing,” it added.

Uwan, known internationally as Fung-Wong, was the second typhoon to hit the Philippines in a week after making landfall Sunday.

The super typhoon devastated large parts of the country, displacing more than a million people and leaving widespread destruction across Luzon and the Visayas.

Just days after Typhoon Tino killed more than 200 people in the Visayas, the death toll from Uwan rose to 18 as of Tuesday, with search, rescue, and retrieval operations still ongoing.

Authorities said the Bicol region, particularly Catanduanes province, was the hardest hit, accounting for most of the displaced residents.

Uwan also left extensive damage to infrastructure, utilities, and transportation networks, compounding the challenges faced by affected communities.

The Diocese of Virac appealed for continued public support for its relief and social action efforts in the wake of the storm.

“Let us stand together to help our fellow Catandunganon rebuild,” the diocese said. (CBCP News)
