Honoring Missionaries: Archdiocese Blesses PME Rest House during Annual Clergy Retreat

The priests of the Archdiocese of Davao gathered to begin their Annual Clergy Retreat 2025 beginning last November 10, 2025 to November 14 at the PME Rest House, Talomo, Davao City. Held at 5:00 p.m., the opening celebration marked the start of days dedicated to prayer, reflection, and spiritual renewal — a sacred pause for those who tirelessly serve the faithful throughout the year.

The retreat opened with the Holy Mass, presided over by the Archbishop of Davao, Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D. Following the Mass, a significant moment in the life of the local Church unfolded: the blessing of the newly established PME Rest House. This took place immediately after the first Mass of the retreat, symbolizing a new chapter in the Archdiocese’s pastoral care for its clergy and the whole flock.

The PME Rest House stands not only as a facility but as a tribute — named in honor of the PME Fathers (Pretres de Missions Etrangeres), the missionary priests from Quebec, Canada, who first planted the seeds of the Catholic faith in Davao. With faith, humility, and mission at their core, these pioneers helped build the spiritual foundation upon which the Archdiocese stands today.

The blessing of this new refuge reflects deep gratitude for their legacy and continues their vision of forming hearts rooted in Christ.

Nestled amid the peaceful surroundings of Talomo, the Rest House has been designed as a sanctuary for prayer, rest, and renewal. For priests and pastoral workers who dedicate their lives to service, this haven offers a space to recharge their spirit symbolizing a quiet reminder that shepherds too must be cared for.

With gratitude and reverence, the clergy expressed their joy at being the first to use this sacred space. Msgr. Paul Cuison, Procurator of the Achdiocese of Davao and administrator of this project, gave the orientation to the clergy saying: “We not drafted yet our house rules. But we are happy to be the first to use this rest house. Whatever is lacking, please feel free to let us know. Let us patronize this. Our house manager is Sr. Felipa.”

As they had their retreat journey, they carry with them the hopes of the faithful they serve and the timeless call to deepen their communion with God. The days ahead promise silence, fraternity, and spiritual strengthening a grace-filled invitation to return renewed, ready to serve with hearts aflame with love and faith.

As the Archdiocese of Davao enters this moment of blessing and renewal, may the spirit of peace and mission continue to guide its pastors in faithfully shepherding the people of God. (Photos by Davao Clergy and Jeffrey Caralde Suplaag)
