Archbishop Valles, Davao Clergy Experience DC Bus Firsthand

Several members of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Davao, led by the Archbishop, Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., experienced firsthand the city’s new public transport system after riding the DC Bus on the morning of December 16. The activity took place shortly after the celebration of the Misa de Gallo, marking a simple yet meaningful engagement with ordinary commuters in Davao City.

The archbishop was joined by priests and religious as they boarded the modern buses operating under the Davao Interim Bus Service. The clergy were seen interacting with fellow passengers and observing the overall riding experience, which aimed to showcase the accessibility and convenience of the new transport initiative. The ride highlighted the city government’s efforts to improve public transportation for Dabawenyos.

The DC Bus project currently offers free rides on selected routes and schedules, allowing residents to experience the modernized system. With its air-conditioned interiors, organized seating, and improved facilities, the buses are designed to provide safer and more comfortable travel for daily commuters across the city.

According to posted updates, the clergy’s participation underscored a gesture of solidarity with the commuting public. By riding the DC Bus, Church leaders demonstrated support for initiatives that directly affect the daily lives of people, especially workers and families who rely on public transportation.

The event also reflected a broader message of presence and engagement, as Church leaders stepped into public spaces to connect with the community beyond liturgical celebrations. It serves also as a simple appreciation of the city government’s effort for the progress of the city. As the DC Bus continues its pilot operations, the initiative remains a symbol of development and collaboration aimed at enhancing urban mobility in Davao City. (Photos by Jeffrey Caralde Suplaag)
