FLA-PSKB Continues Mission of Forming Christ-Centered Families
The Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph invites the faithful to pause and reflect on the beauty, strength, and sacredness of family life. Celebrated within the Christmas season, this feast reminds Christians that the first community formed by God Himself was a family. In the simple home of Nazareth, love was expressed through obedience, sacrifice, faith, and daily acts of charity. This resonates deeply with the heart of the Filipino family.
For Filipinos, family remains the foundation of life and society. It is within the family where faith is first taught, values are shaped, and traditions are passed on. The Filipino family is known for its close ties, respect for elders, bayanihan spirit, and deep sense of responsibility for one another. These values mirror the example of the Holy Family, who faced trials with trust in God, unity in hardship, and unwavering love. In a world challenged by changing values and modern pressures, the Holy Family stands as a timeless model for Filipino homes striving to remain rooted in faith.
In the Archdiocese of Davao, this mission of nurturing Christian families is strongly carried by the Family and Life Apostolate–Pangulo sa Kristohanong Banay (FLA-PSKB). Under the guidance of its Spiritual Director, Rev. Fr. Orlando “Orly” Angelia, the apostolate continues to be a vital arm of the Church in strengthening family life. Through formation programs, pastoral accompaniment, and parish-based activities, FLA-PSKB works to inspire families to live out their vocation as domestic churches, patterned after Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.
A concrete expression of this mission is seen every year on the Feast of the Holy Family, when parishes across the archdiocese hold Family Day activities spearheaded by their respective Family Life Apostolates. These gatherings provide opportunities for families to pray together, reflect on their roles, and renew their commitment to one another. Beyond celebration, these activities serve as moments of healing, learning, and reconnection, reminding families that they are not alone in their struggles and joys.
During the Christmas season, the role of the Family and Life Apostolate becomes even more significant. Christmas is not only a time of festivity but also a season that calls families to rediscover Christ at the center of their homes. Amid celebrations and reunions, the apostolate helps families reflect on the true meaning of Christmas which is love made visible in everyday sacrifices, forgiveness, and presence. By guiding, strengthening, inspiring, and molding Christian Catholic families, FLA-PSKB continues to echo the message of the Holy Family: that holiness is lived first and foremost at home.
