Sent Forth to Spread Hope: GKK Leaders Commissioned for Advent Wreath Ministry

St. Jude Thaddeus Shrine Parish Embraces New Liturgical Year with Community Evangelization

In a beautiful convergence of faith and action, the St. Jude Thaddeus Shrine Parish in Malvar St., marked the dawn of the Advent Season and the New Liturgical Year with the Commissioning of Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban (GKK) Servant Leaders for the solemn ministry of the Advent Wreath lighting.

More than a hundred dedicated GKK Servant Leaders gathered this morning, Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 6:00 AM, to attend a Holy Mass officiated by the Parish Priest. The service was a profound moment of spiritual preparation, underscoring the vital role the grassroots community plays in the life of the parish.

During the Holy Mass, a key highlight was the blessing of the Advent Wreaths prepared by each GKK Leader. This traditional symbol of hope, peace, joy, and love, was sanctified to become a beacon in the communities.

Following the blessing, the GKK Servant Leaders were formally commissioned. This rite was not just a formality but a powerful act of sending forth these men and women as Christ’s ambassadors to their respective communities. The commissioning ceremony emphasized through the homily of Fr. Leonardo A. Dublan, Jr. their responsibility to carry the light of Christ’s coming into the homes of the faithful.

The mandate given to the newly commissioned leaders is both personal and far-reaching: to visit two families each Sunday during the four weeks of Advent to lead the ritual lighting of the Advent Wreath.

This ministry is designed to bring the parish’s celebration of the Advent season directly into the homes and hearts of its members, particularly within the small Christian communities (GKKs). By facilitating the lighting ceremony—which includes prayers, scripture readings, and reflection—the GKK Servant Leaders will actively foster spiritual anticipation and preparation for Christmas, right at the family level.

The timing of this commissioning is especially significant, as November 30, 2025, marks the First Sunday of Advent and the official beginning of the New Liturgical Year and Cycle A for the Universal Catholic Church.

The GKK Servant Leaders’ prompt deployment into their communities is a concrete manifestation of the Church’s call for renewed commitment and active evangelization as they begin a new year of grace. Their visits will ensure that the Advent tradition is not confined to the church walls but is lived out dynamically in the domestic church—the family.

This effort by the St. Jude Thaddeus Shrine Parish is a beautiful example of how the GKK structure empowers the laity to be true partners in the Church’s mission, transforming a liturgical observance into a shared, community-wide experience of waiting and hope. The lights they will kindle each Sunday symbolize the growing anticipation of Christ, the Light of the World, coming into the darkness of our world.
