Davao Fil-Chinese Catholic Community Celebrates Chinese New Year 2026
The spirit of Joy and Gratitude filled the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Obrero last February 15, 2026, as the Filipino-Chinese community gathered for a special Thanksgiving Mass in celebration of the Chinese New Year 2026.
Held during the regular 9:00 a.m. Sunday Mass, the Eucharistic celebration highlighted the parish’s unique identity as the only and official Parish in Davao City, dedicated to and catering specifically to the Chinoy Catholic Community. Through the years, it has served as a spiritual home where faith and cultural heritage meet in harmony.
The Filipino-Chinese Catholic Youth (FCCY) – Davao Chapter, and the Davao Sacred Heart Ladies Circle actively served during the Mass, leading the choir singing in Mandarin, assisting in the ministries and helping ensure a prayerful and meaningful celebration.
Also present our neighbor school, the Stella Maris Academy of Davao (SMAD) – a Catholic institution serving for Filipinos and Chinese, whose students, families and representatives joined the parish in thanksgiving, reflecting the school’s mission of nurturing both Filipino and Chinese Catholic identity.
Centered on the Holy Eucharist, it was more than a New Year celebration. Strengthened by His love and nourished by His Body and Blood, the community now steps into the New Year grounded in grace, united in devotion, culture and service.
As we welcome the Year of the Fire Horse, we thank God for His constant guidance, strength, and blessings to our families. Just like the Fire Horse that symbolizes passion, courage, and perseverance, may we continue to ask the Holy Spirit to help us move forward with faith, unity, and love in serving Him and one another.
May this new year inspire us to grow deeper in our relationship with Christ, live out His teachings, and become instruments of His love in our community.
From FCCY Davao, we wish everyone a year filled with peace, joy, good health, and abundant blessings. May Christ remain at the center of all that we do.
Xīn Nián Kuài Lè!
