Walking in His Word: My life Shaped by the Bible (Part 2 of 2)
When I was rebuilding my life and faced pressure to compromise my values to get ahead, Proverbs 16:18—“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall”—kept me grounded. I chose a smaller, more honest role instead of chasing a title that didn’t align with who I wanted to be.
When I struggled to forgive someone who’d betrayed my trust, Ephesians 4:32—“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you”—helped me let go of bitterness. It wasn’t easy, but the verse reminded me that forgiveness is a gift I give myself as much as to others.
Even in ordinary moments—when I felt anxious about the future or frustrated with myself—I found comfort in Matthew 6:34: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” It taught me to live more fully in the present, trusting that I don’t have to carry every burden alone.
The Bible didn’t just change how I saw myself—it transformed how I connected with others. Hebrews 10:24-25 challenged me to “consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together.” I’d always kept my faith private, but this verse pushed me to join a small group Bible study.
In that circle, I met people from all walks of life—some facing struggles I’d never imagined, others with wisdom to share from years of walking with God. We studied passages together, prayed for each other, inspired by Matthew 25:40: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” My faith stopped being just about my own growth and instead it blossomed and grew helping in lifting up those around me.
Today, the Bible is woven into the fabric of my life. It’s not a book I read once and put away—it’s a companion I return to again and again, finding new meaning in familiar verses as I grow. It hasn’t made life easy, but it has made it meaningful. It has shaped my choices, mended my heart, and connected me to a community that feels like family.
Walking in His word isn’t about being perfect, it’s about taking one step at a time, letting the Scripture light the way. (Laura Paige Lucernas, SLCD Immersionist)
