Eighty Years of Faith: San Jose GKK Celebrates Grand Jubilee!
The GKK San Jose Puan recently marked a historic milestone last March 19, 2026, celebrating its 80th founding anniversary with a solemn Holy Mass presided over by Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao. Joining the celebration were former parish priest Fr. Severino “Ben” Capulong and current parish priest Fr. Anthony “Dondon” Silvosa of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish.
This year’s celebration is centered on the theme: “San Jose amahan ug esposo, kauban ug giya sa panaw ngadto kang Kristo nga atong paglaum.”
During his homily, Archbishop Valles emphasized that the chapel’s 80-year endurance is a gift of faith. He praised the “beautiful church and beautiful people” who draw inspiration from St. Joseph as a protector, intercessor, and a model of faith in action.
Despite the joy, the journey has not been without trials. Alchie Dumagonot, the Pangulo sa Katilingban (PSK), noted that the community faced significant challenges, specifically regarding the land where the chapel stands. However, these obstacles failed to hinder their growth or the ongoing construction of the chapel. She continues to call for financial support from the faithful to finally complete the chapel renovation.
The successful and orderly celebration concluded with profound gratitude to God for eight decades of spiritual guidance and community resilience. (Marissa Yee, SLRP SoCCom)
