ANTONIO SYD 2026: Young Pilgrims Journey Together in Faith, Hope, and Joy
The vibrant spirit of the youth filled the halls of the Holy Cross of Agdao Gymnasium as the San Antonio de Padua Parish – Agdao Parish Youth Apostolate successfully conducted its most awaited annual youth gathering, “Summer Youth Day (SYD) 2026,” last May 30, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
With the participation of 206 young people composed of participants and facilitators coming from Zones 1 to 9 under the jurisdiction of San Antonio de Padua Parish, the whole-day celebration became a meaningful encounter of faith, friendship, leadership, and community spirit. The event served as a venue for the youth to deepen their relationship with God while strengthening unity among fellow young disciples of Christ.
This year’s Summer Youth Day was spearheaded by the incumbent Parish Youth Coordinator, Ms. Ivy May Soyosa, who has faithfully served the youth Apostolate as coordinator since 2023. Through her leadership and dedication, the event became a successful and inspiring gathering that encouraged the youth to become active witnesses of hope and service in the Church.
One of the highlights of the event was the inspirational talk delivered by Mr. John Anthony “Dolly” Camangyan, a former coordinator of the Davao Archdiocesan Youth Coordinating Apostolate (DAYCA). He shared reflections and practical insights centered on the theme, “Rejoice in Hope, Endure in Affliction, Persevere in Prayer” (Romans 12:12), which was inspired by the National Youth Day 2025 celebration in the Archdiocese of Cáceres.
In his message, Dolly encouraged the youth to remain hopeful despite life’s struggles, to stand firm during trials, and to continue nurturing a strong prayer life amidst the challenges of modern society. His testimony and reflections resonated deeply with the participants, inspiring them to live their faith courageously and joyfully.
Adding inspiration to the gathering was the presence of the parish Youth Director, Rev. Fr. Florencio “Jun” Acedo, DCD, who visited the venue to personally express his support and encouragement to the young people of the parish. His presence reminded the youth that the Church continues to accompany and guide them in their journey of faith and service.
The event also featured exciting and interactive activities that strengthened camaraderie and teamwork among the participants. One of the most anticipated activities was the series of games under the “Amazing Raise,” where the youth actively participated in challenges that tested their cooperation, creativity, and unity.
Another major highlight of the celebration was the socio-cultural activity with a presentation known as KaSaDra — short for Kanta, Sayaw, at Drama. Through music, dance, and theatrical performances, the participants showcased not only their talents and creativity but also meaningful messages about faith, hope, youth empowerment, and Christian values.
Serving as judges for the KaSaDra presentations were former Parish Youth Coordinators who once dedicated their lives in serving the youth ministry of San Antonio de Padua Parish. These included Mr. Gary Guivencan (2007–2008), Mr. Carlito Maturan (2008–2012), and Ms. Bebeth Pangan (2012–2023). Their presence symbolized the continuing legacy of youth leadership and service within the parish community.
As the celebration drew to a close, the participants gathered for a heartfelt Praise and Worship where songs of faith and thanksgiving echoed throughout the venue. The spiritual atmosphere became a beautiful reminder that despite differences and challenges, the youth remain united in Christ.
Before departing from the venue, rosaries were distributed to all participants as symbols of prayer, devotion, and their continuing journey with God. The simple gesture served as a reminder for every young person to persevere in prayer and entrust their lives to the loving guidance of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Indeed, the SYD 2026 became more than just a youth event—it became a journey of faith, hope, fellowship, and renewed commitment to Christian discipleship. Through this meaningful gathering, the youth of San Antonio de Padua Parish were once again reminded that they are called to become joyful pilgrims and active missionaries of Christ in today’s world.
