Faith Shines through the Rain: Sto. Rosario Parish Celebrates GKK Day and Flores de Mayo Culmination
TORIL, Davao City — Faith and community spirit triumphed over inclement weather as Sto. Rosario Parish celebrated its GKK Day and Flores de Mayo Culmination 2026 on May 31, bringing together members of the parish’s Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs), Flores de Mayo participants, and their families in a vibrant expression of faith, unity, and gratitude.
The celebration commenced with the Holy Mass at 2:00 p.m., during which the faithful gathered in thanksgiving for the blessings received throughout the month of May and entrusted their communities to the maternal care of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Eucharistic celebration served as the spiritual foundation of the day’s activities, highlighting the importance of communion and participation in the life of the Church.
Following the Mass, the parish grounds came alive with presentations from the different BECs and Flores de Mayo participants. Despite heavy rains that began to fall later in the afternoon, the scheduled activities continued as community members remained steadfast in their participation and support.
Various performances showcased the talents, creativity, and enthusiasm of the parish communities. Songs, dances, dramatizations, and cultural presentations reflected not only artistic expression but also the vibrant faith life of the BECs. The Flores de Mayo children added joy and inspiration to the celebration, serving as a reminder that Marian devotion continues to flourish among the younger generation.
Adding to the excitement of the event was a special raffle draw conducted for the chapels of the parish’s Basic Ecclesial Communities. A total of thirteen (13) electric fans were raffled and awarded, providing practical assistance to the chapels and further strengthening the sense of solidarity among the communities.
The parish also distributed school supplies to the children who attended the celebration. This gesture brought smiles to many young participants and highlighted the parish’s continuing concern for the welfare and education of its children, while encouraging their active participation in parish life.
What made the event particularly memorable was the determination of the participants to carry on despite the challenging weather conditions. Neither the rain nor the muddy grounds diminished the festive atmosphere. Families remained present, children continued their participation, and community members supported one another throughout the celebration.
Parish leaders noted that the event became a living witness to the strength of faith and the vitality of the Basic Ecclesial Communities. The perseverance shown by the participants embodied the spirit of communion, participation, and mission that the Church continues to promote within local communities.
Sto. Rosario Parish expressed its gratitude to all BEC Servant Leaders and members, Flores de Mayo participants, parents, coordinators, volunteers and organizers whose dedication contributed to the success of the celebration.
As the month dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary concluded, the faithful departed with renewed gratitude, strengthened relationships, and a deeper commitment to live out their Christian vocation within their families and communities.
Indeed, while rain fell from the skies, God’s grace was poured out abundantly upon His people, proving once again that faith, unity, and love for the Church are stronger than any storm. (Jesse Hipolito)
