Catechists as Missionaries of New Evangelization

September, celebrated as Catechetical Month, offers the Church an opportunity to recognize the quiet yet vital mission of catechists who accompany people in knowing, loving, and living the faith. More than teachers of religious knowledge, catechists are witnesses who help bring the Gospel closer to families, communities, and especially the younger generation.

The Catechists and Evangelizers Conference on New Evangelization, with the theme “Paminaw: Synodal Journey for One Mission” and anchored on the call “To be with Him” (Mk 3:14), reminds the Church that evangelization begins with listening and communion. Before catechists can lead others toward Christ, they themselves are called to remain with Him, listen to His voice, and discern how the Gospel can speak meaningfully to the realities of today.

In the mission of New Evangelization, catechists have a crucial role. They are called not only to teach doctrines but also to build bridges between the faith and the daily lives of the people they serve. Through patient accompaniment, faithful witness, and attentive listening, they can help renew the faith of those who have grown distant from the Church and deepen the faith of those who continue to journey within it.

As the Church celebrates Catechetical Month, may this conference renew the commitment of every catechist and evangelizer to be present, to listen, and to walk with others toward Christ.

“Paminaw” is not merely an invitation to hear; it is a call to listen with a heart ready to serve, so that together, the Church may continue one mission: to proclaim Christ and make Him known.
