Look at sin and the necessity to be reconciled

(Excerpt from the homily of Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao during the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Holy Mass at San Pedro Cathedral last September 6, 2026.)

Now, the other Sunday before last Sunday, on you Petrus, Simon Petrus, I will build my Church, okay. I told you that what is intriguing also even if the Lord Jesus gave Peter, Petrus, Peter, Cephas, a new name, but his name is kept “Simon Peter” and one reflection is that though nindot kaayo, you are rock! Get behind me Satan.

This Sunday from Simon Peter and the disciples, and the Church we are told a very important teaching of who we are, being called=calleo, called out to join him to be assembled by the Lord, two important teachings, one that ang atong pagka Simon because Simon Peter, bisag siya lang ang mutubag, in the writings of the Gospel siya ang nag represent nato. So, when you have Peter, somehow we can see ourselves in him. So, in Simon Peter last Sunday was sinfulness, the lack of his faith, now this Sunday we are told, it is very important in this ekkaleo, in this assembly called by God, magbantay ta sa pagka Simon, mugula atong downside, try kadtong kulang og katekesios, ingun sila.. ahh simba simba, why go to Church, mao ra gihapon na sila, ahh that’s common, mugula ang atong pagka Petrus unta, binunyagan kita by the grace, pero mugula ang downside, that is why it is very important for us this Sunday to realize in that Peter, disciples, ecclesia, Church kitang tanan, important ang one thing to be sharp, to be quick, that ability to reflect, recollect, self-assessment to look at sin but also, not only sin but if you have bad down there dili maayo. Dli maayo very bad masubraan. Look at sin and the necessity to be reconciled.

Components sa ekkaleo, sa ecclesia, led by the disciples and apostles led by Petrus, pagbantay mo ang tatak sa imu naa pa, up to the end Peter Simon Peter denied Jesus right at the last hour when he was, he denied Jesus, so pagbantay sa pagka Simon, pagka human so, in today’s gospel reading 23rd Sunday ordinary time we are told you are beloved people always by grace called out to be with Jesus, ekkaleo but watch out!
