The Good News Which Is Jesus Christ
(Excerpt from the Homily of Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao, during the Memorial of St. Ignatius of Antioch and the Archdiocesan SoCCom Convention last October 17, 2026 at St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary of Mindanao.)
Why is it my dear friends, SoCCom practitioners, why was it that he and the early martyrs, kauban niya ang early Church fathers nga sila si Polycarp, Clement, mga bantugan na sila, unya lig-on kaayo, dehado pa ang Church but why? The answer is DXGN, GN, Good News. Dili Good News nga written, nabasa nako sa Tiktok. No, the Good News in the person of Jesus, buhi Siya, tinuod Siya, He ate with us, He offered His life to us, gibangga Niya ang kamatayon ug Siya nabanhaw. That is the Good News nga nakaintriga nila, mao nay orig nga GN and Ignatius wrote about it and that Good News of Jesus nga gituohan, ah sila nga nagatuo sa Good News they are really Catholic kay ang Good News dili tagoan, it’s for the world, for all. He died because He experience truly in his heart the Good News which is Jesus Christ.
Now we come to something very simple ana man ta, kinsay tighimo sa iyahang content? Content creator? Here very easy it’s only one content, well-defined, the content of the SoCCom personnel only one, the content is the content of Jesus Christ, the life-giving ihatod kita sa life eternal nga iyahang gibuhat kanato Iyang death and resurrection. The Church is the mystical body of Jesus. We live because nagapuyo kita sa mystery sa Iyang kamatayon ug sa Iyang pagkabanhaw that is the Good News.
Pakatawa lami pero walay Good News. For us SoCCom in the Church always try to make sure that ang imong modern day content makit-an, reporting, you can defend that, you can explain that this is the Good News of Jesus Christ.
So today, we pray to St. Ignatius, sa kalisod ug kalipay we pray to him that we’ll be faithful to the Good News. That’s why we have to come to Church, come to Mass, here is the Good News. You listen to the Gospel, to the Readings, that would remind you again in words what is the Good News of our salvation.
